    Shipwreck

How did we end up here

    Washed up on the seashore

    Swept in by the waves

    Beaten and bewildered

    By these stormy seas

    Like a shipwreck sinking

    That’s how it feels

    When everything within

    Is trying to stay true

    To the compass directing

Trying to hold to the way things use to be

    Rather than breaking free

    Feeling the fresh wind blow

    Refreshing my soul

    It longs to carry me

To where the sun is shining

Where the warmth of a smile

    And fresh flowers are blooming

    Sweet fragrance, full of delight

    Love is all around

    But somewhere along the way

    The blue skies have faded

    Those days of dancing, parading

Were joy is to be found

    Were the burden is lighter

    Flowing free, like a river

    Where there is grace

    No longer a fight

Peace – is like a river

But isn’t this what life, is all about

The journey of becoming, of growing

    Knowing and beholding

    Every moment

    With our Creator

There will be highs, there will be lows

    Where the sea billows roll

Even through the valleys, we will go

    Facing heart ache and disappointment

Dreams may come, or even fade away

Disappearing for a moment into the shade

Over time covered by the dust we’ve made

Until a fresh wind blows, a fresh fire kindles

And we remember that the sea billows roll

Stirring my heart, awakening my soul

With the wonder, of our Creator

    Why does the wind blow

Someday those forgotten dreams lying in the dust

Get sprinkled with hope and faith

Courage comes and the seed begins to grow

Everything finds its rightful place with time

    With our Creator

And the seed grows in the soil of a barren land

    The meandering river refreshes

    Restoring my soul

    And the crossroads come

The mountain top, even the valley unfolds

Reminds us once again, that the sea billows roll

    And with our Creator

    He lights the way

    Even when things go astray

The blue skies may fade for a season

Some will laugh and some will say

But isn’t this – always the way

    Where the sea billows roll

Reminds me of the light that shines brighter

Even through darker and stormy days

    Hope will come

Where we will dream once again

    With our Creator

As the pain fades, the comforter heals

The grass will grow and the flowers will bloom

The barren wasteland once more becoming a spring

    He will light the way

Darker days can feel like those stormy seas

The voyage only ever for a season

    But sometimes the shipwreck

    Comes for an unknown reason

    The way ahead uncertain

    When everything around, is shaken

Maybe the trumpet will sound in this season

And in the barren land, we will hear a new sound

    Heavens all around

    Will your anchor hold

    In the stormy seas

    When the darker clouds come

    And the rain falls down

When you cannot see the road ahead

Who is the anchor, of my soul

    Who is the steadfast rock

Who is the one who makes me whole

    Yet you wonder

    Will your anchor hold

    In the stormy seas

    When all else is gone

    And Heavens all around

    When the sea billows roll

    And I hear the sound

    My hope is built

    On Christ alone

    He is – our Creator

  • For to us a child is born

The Great Turning Point of All Things

“What kings and leaders of nations, philosophers and artists, founders of religions and teachers of morals have tried in vain to do – that now happens through a new-born child. Putting to shame the most powerful human efforts and accomplishments, a child is placed here at the midpoint of world history – a child born of human beings, a son given by God.

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulders. And he will be called wonderful counsellor, might God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Is 9:6)

That mystery of the redemption of the world; everything past and everything future is encompassed here. The infinite mercy of the almighty God comes to us, descends to us in the form of a child, his son. That this child is born for us, this son is given to us, that this human child and Son of God belongs to me, that I know him, have him, love him, that I am his and he is mine – on this alone my life now depends. A child has our life in his hands…….”

Quote from Dietrich Bonhoeffer (God in an Manger – Reflections on Advent and Christmas)
